Galactic Settlement Simulator Guide

Welcome, Architect. This application is a specialized hard sci-fi sandbox built explicitly to simulate the long-term interstellar settlement and migration vectors of humanity. It is designed exclusively for locating, mapping, and charting Earth-like habitable worlds that possess the necessary planetary mass and baseline components to be terraformed for sustained human life. To maintain a strict data focus on biosphere colonization, this system does not catalog or display automated raw-material mining operations, industrial processing refineries, deep-space scouting observation outposts, or orbiting military space stations.

Key Principles

  • Distance Limitation: The expansion of civilizations matches realistic logistics curves. Moving out past calculated logistical limits forces an immediate decay in state authority, causing distant outer sectors to fracture into independent, un-aligned "Gray Zones."
  • Galactic Disk: Stars do not populate uniformly. The engine projects a strict astrophysical Gaussian distribution curve that slashes vertical density along the Z-axis, perfectly mimicking the realistic structural flattening profile of a spiral galactic arm.
  • Economic Factions: Geopolitical borders are organically dictated by structural wealth and stellar density. Hyper-connected trading hubs project massive political gravity wells, absorbing smaller neighboring settlements into sweeping, unified planetary super-alliances.
  • Frontier Exploration: Migrating colonial webs expand intelligently. Trajectory drives lean vectors away from crowded, resource-exhausted star clusters while ancient historical lineage lines fight to maintain administrative unity across massive fractal voids.

Control Panel (Sidebar)

Target Planet Count

Controls the total volume of successfully terraformed worlds mapped inside the sector. In worldbuilding, adjusting this value represents the overall maturity or technological epoch of your setting—shifting your sandbox from a rare, isolated frontier expedition to a highly saturated, multi-generation colonial network.

Minimum Discovery Distance

Determines how far exploratory vessels must travel from the home system before locating an un-mapped, habitable target candidate. The default value is strictly calibrated to 22 light-years. In real-world astrophysics, finding a planet that perfectly matches human-habitable parameters is exceptionally rare. Averaged stellar profiles indicate that a spacefaring society would need to scan through a deep spherical volume of space extending roughly 22 light-years away from their capital to locate a world with the correct planetary core chemistry, atmospheric gravity, and magnetic shielding viability required for a successful terraforming project.

Trade Distance Limit

Sets the maximum range that civilian supply conduits, structural heavy freight liners, and FTL information rays can reliably jump without experiencing severe cargo or data decay. In narrative writing, dialing this down isolates sectors into protective fiefdoms, while raising it opens up massive galactic highways that bind distant clusters into tightly controlled political networks.

Color Theme

Swaps between analytical data display templates. The 'Factions' theme runs the live Geopolitical Calculation engine, assigning high-contrast color arrays to separate empires based on their historical parent lineages and trading densities, instantly visualizing active borders.

Timeline Filter Slider

An interactive chronological scrubber that lets you step back through the historic turns of exploration. This allows creators to visualize the explicit sequence in which the sector was settled, revealing how ancient core capitals slowly established their networks before pushing into the modern frontier era.

Export CSV Data

Converts all live planetary attributes, absolute 3D coordinates, ancestry tracking tags, and calculated faction codes into a standardized spreadsheet data matrix. Authors and game masters use this to instantly transfer campaign logs straight into external management files.

Export Sector OBJ Mesh

Generates a comprehensive 3D object point cloud of every discovered world inside the active generation array. This structural file lets developers import the exact mathematical physical geometry of their custom quadrant straight into modeling suites like Blender or game engines like Godot and Unity.

Export Trade Lane OBJ Mesh

Extracts the precise 3D architectural pipeline coordinates of all active hyperlane trade routes currently passing your Trade Distance checks. This separates the connection infrastructure from the planets, allowing you to render glowing logistics lattices or transport grids in external design software.

Storytelling Tips

The procedural configurations displayed on your dashboard serve as an organic narrative canvas to fuel your unique fictional universe. When crafting a story, do not just treat the lines as mathematical distances—treat them as active points of human conflict and sociological friction:

  • The Core-Rim Divide: The central, hyper-saturated neon hubs cluster tightly around the ancient Origin system. Use these zones to represent dense, heavily taxed corporate oligarchies or bureaucratic regimes that have forgotten what the frontier looks like.
  • Flashpoints of Desperation: Look for thin colonial chains threading across low-density bottlenecks. In a story, these are vulnerable shipping bottlenecks. If a rogue pirate block or an aggressive border faction blockades one system in that thin lane, the entire far-flung colony network past the void will experience resource collapse and political chaos.
  • The Lawless Frontier: The independent gray worlds sitting in silent voids represent the perfect setting for outlaws, radical political dissidents, and black-market smugglers who would rather brave the unforgiving vertical galactic vacuum than submit to core world corporate taxes.

Crucially, remember that these results are entirely open to interpretation, modification, and custom narrative expansion. The generated map is not a rigid script—it is a foundation. The user is only limited by their own imagination; use these coordinates to anchor your lore, but let your human characters write the history books.
